Obama seen as more likely to beat McCain

As far as Obama dressing in traditional Muslim garb, I don't think Americans need to fear that he is not just as pro-Israel as Bush or any of the previous American presidents. Should Hillary Clintons campaign be responsible for distributing the, 'photo,' Obama could hit back with a photo of Bill Clinton wearing a yarmulke.

And then, just one segment into the four-hour show, he abruptly up and left.

No one's sure where Williams had been. But now we know where he was headed—down a dangerous, dark detour toward self-destruction. One that, according to multiple sources, ultimately landed him in rehab for a cocaine problem. One that, undeniably, has thrust his career in jeopardy, his co-workers in limbo and his countless loyal listeners into a passionate debate about his fate.

"I've got a lot of fences to mend," Williams said last week from his Turtle Creek condo. "I had the world by the balls, and I just pissed on it."

Speaking in strained, guarded tones, Williams declined to discuss the specifics of his six-week absence. In his first public comments since bailing in mid-syllable, he confirmed only that he's now void of drugs, full of regret and buoyed by hope that he'll be welcomed back to the 3 p.m.

PGI keeps out HIV+ patient

We were asked to go to the clinic at room no. 3027of the new OPD. We kept waiting from 8.30 am. My daughter-in-law started feeling uneasy, said Gurdev Kaur, mother-in-law of the patient.

At noon when my daughter-in-law began vomiting, I went to Dr Archana in the clinic, requesting her to attend the patient. She refused, saying she had to see a patient at the emergency and left. Till 2.30 pm, there was nobody at the clinic.

Chet Singh of Kuraiwala village in Muktsar, accompanying the patient and the mother-in-law, alleged that a patient from Tanda Urmur waiting for his turn at the OPD had died yesterday.

Doctors on duty at the emergency ward later confirmed to this correspondent that the patient from the OPD had been brought dead.

Dr Archana B. Mohan, SMO of the National AIDS Control Organisation being run from the PGI, denied any such incident.

Kevin Allen: Disappointed Wings didn't get Fedorov, but Stuart a good ...

To me its a mixed bag. I really am disappointed in the team that they didnt make an effort to get Sergei Fedorov, I think they poked around there, but when you see what Fedorov went for, I just think they decided there was mixed reviews to decide to bring him in. They decided they liked their group up front. I disagree. I thought he would be a nice fit in there.

On Brad Stuart:

I do like what they did on defense, after the big boys (Dan Boyle, who was re-signed, and Rob Blake, who did not want to waive his no-trade clause), I thought that Brad Stuart was the best of that group and when you give only a couple draft picks, and not a first rounder, and you get a two-way defenseman with a little bit of grit and size and can move the puck, I think you made a pretty good move.

Long Island Briefs: Bike accident inquiry

Police are still investigating why a 52-year-old man was lying in a Brentwood street before a car ran over him after he apparently fell off his bicycle. The man, whom police have not identified, was struck by a car on American Boulevard at 7:47 p.m. Friday despite the efforts of two people who tried to shield him from oncoming traffic. The man was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was listed in critical condition on Friday evening, with multiple facial fractures, broken ribs and a punctured lung. His condition was not available yesterday. The driver of the car that hit the man was not charged.

Music legend Aunty Genoa Keawe dies

Pomaika'i Keawe knows that Thursday night's show will be particularly special when she takes over for her grandmother at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa.

Her grandmother, Aunty Genoa Leilani Keawe an icon of Hawaiian music famous for her soaring, seemingly endless falsetto in the song "Alika" died early yesterday at her Papakolea home as she slept. She was 89.

Pomaika'i, 26, has been sitting in with Keawe's four-piece band every Thursday night at the Marriott's Moana Terrace since Keawe was admitted to The Queen's Medical Center on Feb. 1.

Not all of the performances have been easy for Pomaika'i.

"But this Thursday will be a good one," Pomaika'i said. "She'll be here in a better spirit."

Asked about filling the same stage that her grandmother held for 14 years, Pomaika'i said, "I feel it's more of a responsibility than a privilege."

LONG ILLNESS

Keawe had cancer, heart, stomach and kidney problems.
