Busy Man: With Funeral Homes and Much More, Kenny Purcell Has His ...
Kenny Purcell comes from hard-working stock. Although he's the name behind Purcell Funeral Homes, that's not all he's involved in. In what little spare time the funeral services businesses in West Southern Pines, Laurinburg and Raeford afford him, Purcell and his family operate a limousine service, an insurance agency, fitness centers and an assisted-living facility. That workload keeps him running from before sunrise to well after sunset, but he's used to it. "I fill my day every day," he says. "At some point, we'll probably downsize, maybe the fitness centers and the assisted living facility. The businesses are going well, but we stay pretty busy all day, although the funeral business isn't as profitable as it used to be. We don't depend on it. The Lord and I get up and going by 3 in the morning and finally finish my day at about 9 or 10 at night." His busy pace is a family tradition.
News.blog: A new look for Facebook
Facebook first announced last year that it was working on a redesign of members' profiles. Now, the social-networking site has unveiled previews of its upcoming new look. The Facebook profile redesigns will start rolling out in the next few weeks. With the new updates, you won't be able to see a member's entire profile on one screen. Personal information about someone will be included on one "tab" of a profile, whereas the "wall" -- public messages, developer-created applications, News Feed updates and other activity-related information -- will be on a separate tab. A third tab will link to the photos that the member has uploaded. Facebook has also said that members will be able to create separate tabs for their favorite applications. Part of this is because of technical issues, Facebook has said, telling members that the changes will make the interface cleaner.

First Edition Cycling News
Two weeks prior to the start of the Tour of California, BMC rider Scott Nydam's father, Ron Nydam was diagnosed with acute leukemia, made worse due to a previous low white cell count disorder. Before stage three started Wednesday morning, Nydam was leading two jersey categories as the event's most aggressive rider and king of the mountain thanks to his courageous back-to-back breakaways in stages two and three. Nydam is using his lengthy breakaways as a form of tribute to cancer patients for the strength and survival they must display on a daily basis. "My breakaway was a statement I was trying to make, [and] even though I didn't make it to the finish by myself, I was out there showing my Dad that I was fighting," said Nydam about his efforts during stage two during which he took over the leader's jersey in the king of the mountains and the most aggressive rider classifications.
U.Mass students and state officials react to violence
A front-page Boston Globe article on Thursday, Feb. 21 highlighted the "grim police blotter" over the past three weeks, bringing national attention to the issue. However, some students don't feel that the recent string of violent incidents paints an accurate picture of the University climate. "From my personal experience, I've never felt scared. I've walked around campus at midnight before," said Dhara Marek, a senior and a resident assistant in Southwest. "I would say UMass is a safe campus and that security and police do a good job of making students feel comfortable." Still, incidents like this make her "a little nervous." "These incidents happening together in a very close time is definitely scary," she said. Freshman Yair Schatz, who lives in Van Meter dorm in Central residential area, said he's not worried.
